The Property
My sweet and curious dog loves having a roll on the thick lawn as we take our daily walks. I had never met the home owner, yet the lush yard was always cut and the fruit trees in seasonal bloom. In 2021, I attended an estate sale being held at the property, learned the house had been unoccupied for the previous two years, and was now going on the market.
I knew it the moment I entered the door,
it was a feeling of being at home.
Careful time was spent going from room to room, taking in the history through photos, book collections, tableware, board games, and wool overcoats. A table sat in the den covered with blue and white china. It had been a wedding gift from the couple’s parents upon their return from a trip to Japan in the 1950’s. Some of the pieces had been picked already, but the remainder was coming home with me.
It happened quite quickly, as the house would soon be available and we were not actively looking to purchase property. But we knew that with an empty nest soon upon us, it was not out of the question.
